Private screenings

Paul & I have been to the cinema quite a lot in the first three months of 2011.
We have sat in many different cinemas - Dunoon, Paisley, Braehead, Glasgow, Gloucester.
There has been one thing in common with them all - we have had almost private screenings of the films!
Most of the time I can understand this as we tend to go to the first screening of the day which is often about 11am. It is usually very quiet (one other person in Paisley last week); you don’t have the constant rustle of food packets and you also do not have the smell of the food!
We went to Dunoon one Sunday evening and were the only two there! I went to the cinema in Gloucester another Sunday evening and it had less than 25% occupancy.
We did visit Braehead one Saturday afternoon and were a little horrified to be in a cinema with about two-thirds of the seats occupied. It was a rustling hell until the film started but then was not too bad (except for the surreptitious sweet eater along the row from us).
How do they make any money?
