New Year 2011

The New Year came in quietly for us. We did stay up and watch some fireworks from the window.
It also looked as if some Chinese lanterns were released from Gourock and this was confirmed when I found one at the bottom of the street the next day. I managed a quick interval session on the track at the back before cooking a joint of pork to take down and enjoy with Jim later on in the day.
We had a run at Benmore Gardens on the 3rd; this was the first visit to the Gardens for ages as they had been locked due to the amount of ice on the paths. The car park still had a fair bit of ice in it. It was good to get around the Gardens again as the running is a bit of up, a bit of down with the amount of each quite variable depending on the route chosen. We had a bowl of soup and scone afterwards and were really surprised to find that the tearoom was busy, especially as the day was a bit miserable with sleet and a wind.
Many people are starting to head back to work and so it is time to think a bit ahead. What do I want to achieve in the early part of the year? Maybe if I commit to my Blog it will get done! In no particular order - and remember that this is just for the first part of the year:
Wardrobe doors back up
Paint room and cupboard doors when it is mild enough
Regular exercise, a bit of variety as well
Read some of the books on the bookshelves
Bit more order in the garden
Explore places I have not been to before
Tidy out the loft and get rid of things I am not using
Get out on skis
Finally, from Julianna’s Blog:
How to stay young
1. Try everything twice.
On one woman’s tombstone she said she wanted this epitaph: “Tried everything twice. Loved it both times!”
2. Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down. (Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)
3. Keep learning.
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever… Never let the brain get idle. ‘An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.’ And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s!
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.
6. The tears happen.
Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. LIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love.
Whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health.
If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don’t take guilt trips.
Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
I love you, my special friend.
11. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second chance..
And if you don’t send this to at least 4 people - who cares?
But do share this with someone.
