January 2009: any progress?

So, after the last post, am I keeping to the aims I put down for 2009? What is it possible to do in January?

Well, the holiday finished with a couple of long runs; one at Taynish as part of the club deflab run (and this was followed by soup / sandwiches / cake at the Tayvallich Coffee Shop). The report of this run is on the EckO website.

The other run was the next day as I did not go back to work until Tuesday 6th January. It was a lovely day with bright sun but still cold so Paul & I went to go for a run around Glen Kin. We had different ideas as to which way to run so Paul set of clockwise and I went anti-clockwise! There was more shade than I had anticipated so parts were cold but the track was frozen so no mud and very few areas where you had to watch put for the ice. This was a long run and maybe too far after the exercise of the previous day but I was trying to maximise the use of holiday time.

The weather has gone downhill since then. Wet and windy describes it well; an even better description puts the word ‘very’ in front of both wet and windy! There have been a couple of street runs and one Saturday visit to Benmore. A street score event at Oban meant more exercise at a weekend.

Looking forward to the rest of January – quite a lot is happening. There is the Edinburgh weekend of a city street orienteering event on Saturday and Holyrood Park colour-coded orienteering on Sunday. We are not going to the ceilidh on the Saturday evening as three events in a weekend would be a bit much for us oldies! Actually we are staying with a sea kayaking friend on Saturday evening.

At the end of the month Paul & I will be at the Controllers’ update near to Lanark. We are presenting a short piece about OCAD so will have to get our heads together on this. There might be an opportunity to have a lunchtime run on that day.

Work is busy with the usual load of marking and the build up to the prelims means working supported study afer the normal day. More marking with the prelims and that is actually a very busy time out of work.

Planning for Loch Ordie is making some progress so I have courses to look at and comment on. We need to have a get together after another ground look / taping of sites check. All this has to be tied up for the end of March so much to do before then. Wee Eee will be used quite a lot on the ferry I think!
