A White Christmas

OK, so it didn’t snow on Christmas Day in Dunoon but I don’t care as everywhere was white and the sun was shining out of a blue sky!
My first Christmas after retiring. Did I get the cards and letters off on time? Well I suppose that the answer is ‘Yes’ as I made the last posting date for second class.
This year it has also been the weather typified on many Christmas cards. The snow started around December 20th/21st and the thermometer plummeted. The roads were lethal for a couple of days and the car has not been back up the steep drive to the house. Until yesterday (30th December) there was very little wind but mainly blue skies for the few hours of daylight. Pavements are clear in the centre of town and along the sea front but very icy elsewhere.
However some of the days were really bright. I went for a couple of runs around the Golf Course and took some photos with the phone.
It was really lovely, especially on Christmas Day when hardly anyone else was out and about. The running was hard work with the snow so I had a reasonable workout.
Mind you I needed the workout as we did eat a fair bit - lovely vension haunch with lots of trimmings like stuffing/roast potatoes/yorkshire puds/honey parsnips/bread sauce and then christmas pud & brandy butter - but only after a long pause collapsed in from of the telly.
Since Christmas Day the weather has been duller and we have had some sleet. Yesterday was bitterly cold with a strong easterly wind so I had my exercise doing housework. At least the house is clean for the New Year! Today I walked into Dunoon and did the shopping. Paul was at the opticians with his Dad so I left the shopping in the car before walking home along the front - it was really cold though and I was glad to arrive home.
The moon is full and shining brightly out of the sky; at the time of writing (6pm) the temperature is already -1C.
We are set for another big meal tomorrow, but a ham (and all the trimmings) this time and a banoffee tart with baked Alaska meringue topping!
